Il Cremasco, «terra di nobili, di ricchi, di padroni, di preti», è fortemente segnato, in questi anni intensi, dalle ferite della Grande guerra, dalle lotte contadine che portano il territorio alla ribalta nazionale, dall’acceso dualismo tra i cattolici – fortemente radicati nel tessuto cremasco – ed i socialisti in progressiva crescita di consensi, mentre il mondo liberale è in preda ad un grande disorientamento. In un contesto di fortissimi contrasti e di accese rivalità, politiche e sociali, compie i primi passi e velocemente si afferma il movimento fascista che tra il 1921 e il 1922, con il decisivo appoggio della borghesia agraria e di una larga fetta del mondo liberale e attraverso un utilizzo sistematico della violenza, riesce a prendere il potere, piegando la resistenza dei cattolici e dei socialisti. Con diciotto saggi di dodici diversi autori il libro costituisce un inedito approfondimento di una fase cruciale della storia italiana e del nostro territorio, che spazia dagli aspetti economici ai fenomeni di carattere sociale e culturale, dando grande spazio ai movimenti politici ed alle lotte sindacali che hanno fortemente caratterizzato il periodo.

The territory of Crema “land of noblemen, rich people, lords and priests” is strongly marked, in this eventful years, by the wounds of the First World War, by the country struggles that brought this territory to the national forefront, by the heated antagonism between the catholic, deep-rooted here, and the Socialists with a progressive increase of consents, while the liberal world is racked with a great disorientation. In a context of very strong conflicts and heated rivalries, both political and social, the Fascist Movement takes its first steps and between 1921 and 1922, with the decisive support of the agrarian middle-class and of a big part of the liberal world and by using systematically violence, it took the lead defeating the resistance of the Catholic and the Socialists. With eighteen essays by twelve different authors the book constitutes a new investigation of a crucial phase of the history of Italy and of our territory, that goes from the economical aspects to the social and cultural events, giving room to the political movements and the trade-union struggles which characterized this period.
