Il libro racconta la storia dello stabilimento Galbani di Casale Cremasco, un tipico esempio di fabbrica-paese dove si realizza una stretta connessione tra realtà produttiva e tessuto economico, sociale e persino culturale, non solo per Casale ma anche per i comuni vicini. Dai destino dell'azienda dipendono in gran parte anche le sorti delle comunità che la circondano. Si racconta di come tra sacrifici e fatica, si cerchi di trovare soluzioni per un lavoro più umano, in tempi in cui il lavoro era veramente pesante dal punto di vista fisico e si operi per raggiungere un equilibrio tra le esigenze del mercato e quelle dei lavoratori. Per affrontare questa ricerca ci si è avvalsi dei ricordi e delle testimonianze dei protagonisti senza trascurare la preziosa fonte delle pubblicazioni dell'azienda rivolte non solo ai dipendenti di Casale ma anche a quelli dei due stabilimenti di Bozzolo e Casalbuttano stabilimenti di cui si tratta nell'ultima parte del volume.

This book tells the story of the factory “Galbani” in Casale Cremasco, a typical example of factory-town where a close connection between production site and fabric of economy, society and culture is created, not only in Casale Cremasco but also in some of the near communes. On the destiny of the firm it depends the fate of the communities around it too. The book talks about how, through sacrifices and efforts, people tried to find solutions for a more human job in a time when work was really hard from a physical point of view and how they worked to achieve a balance between the needs of the market and those of the workers. To face this research it was made use of memories and testimonies of the protagonists without ignoring the valuable source of the publications of the firm addressed not only to the employees in Casale but also to those of the two factories in Bozzolo and Casalbuttano, factories that the last part of this volume is about.
